Creative Kilkenny is delighted support Healthy Kilkenny in collaboration with the Dementia Café Kilkenny, with support from Creative Ireland, to present a series of live music sessions for people affected by dementia.

Music has a unique ability to connect with people living with dementia, often remaining accessible even when other memories become more difficult to recall. Familiar songs can spark recognition, stimulate mood, support concentration, and encourage cognitive engagement.
These live music sessions provide opportunities for singing, movement, and social interaction in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Singing along to well-known tunes encourages participation, self-expression, and positive emotional connections. Live performances also create shared and enjoyable experiences for participants, families, carers, and staff.
Importantly, music can help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation by fostering a sense of community and belonging. Experienced musicians adapt the pace, volume, and repertoire to suit their audience, responding sensitively to participants' reactions and creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere.

By promoting wellbeing, social connection, and meaningful engagement, these sessions support the development of a more dementia-friendly community where everyone can participate, connect, and enjoy the benefits of creativity and music.
