Fuaim na Cuimhne (Sound of Memory)
Fuaim na Cuimhne is a Creative Ireland supported initiative that brings live music, storytelling and gentle movement into a selection retirement homes across County Kilkenny, by supporting positive ageing, health and wellbeing through creativity.
In collaboration with residents, care providers and artists, the programme delivers regular, high quality artistic sessions that foster connection, spark memory and reduce isolation. Each event blends familiar songs, Irish storytelling, gentle movement and participation, transforming shared spaces into vibrant cultural hubs where older adults can engage meaningfully with the arts.
Led byartists including Jenna Raggett, Jane Pearson and Conor Graham alongside renowned storytellers Jim Maher, Tomas Jackman and Michael Creagh, Fuaim na Cuimhne celebrates Kilkenny’s rich musical and storytelling heritage while responding sensitively to the needs of ageing audiences. Sessions are fully inclusive and tailored to cognitive, sensory and mobility requirements, ensuring participation is accessible and person centred.
Underpinned by Creative Ireland’s Health & Wellbeing and Positive Ageing priorities, it recognises creativity as a powerful driver of social connection, emotional wellbeing and lifelong cultural participation. Sustaining regular engagement over time, strengthening relationships, supporting memory/recall, and ensures older people remain connected to cultural of their communities.
