Craobh Eo Windsor Chair Design & Manufacturing

The Craobh Eo Wood Turners will establish a dedicated group focused on researching, learning, and recreating traditional Windsor chairs using time-honoured woodworking techniques. Working from the Craobh Eo workshop in the Old Schoolhouse, Aghamore, a core group of seven members will craft each chair entirely from scratch using native Irish timber and the organisation's existing woodturning equipment.

The project will celebrate traditional craftsmanship, heritage skills, and sustainable woodworking practices while providing participants with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of furniture design and construction. Through hands-on learning and collaboration, members will preserve and promote a valuable aspect of Ireland's woodworking heritage.

Completed chairs will be showcased at a range of local and national events, including Mayo Day, the National Ploughing Championships, local agricultural shows, visits to national schools, and the Techno Teachers National Conference. These demonstrations and exhibitions will provide opportunities to share skills, inspire new generations of makers, and highlight the importance of traditional crafts in contemporary Ireland.

By combining heritage, creativity, and community engagement, the project will help ensure that the art of traditional Windsor chair making continues to be valued, celebrated, and passed on to future generations
