Historically, Waterford was a major trading port and one of the main exports was wool and the linen and textile trade was hugely important to Waterford. This project is an exploration from this history of hte connecting threads between Normandy and Waterford on the theme of textiles and sustainability. 

Waterford Libraries has a ReThink, ReWork, ReMake project to provide workshops that promote reuse and reworking of materials as well as The Hub Maker Space in its Central Library. Waterford Libraries also works in partnership with Council's Climate Action Team who are implementing the Council's Climate Action Plan 2024-2029. Normandy has the French "Répar' acturs" label that supports and promotes artisans to repiar and re-use and provide excellence in sustainable craftsmanship. The focus will also be on natural resources such as wool and linen. 

As well as upskilling artisans we intend to link decision makers in both Normandy and Waterford to share expertise and explore how an initiative such as the "Répar' acteurs" label can have an economic and environmental benefit for a region. Ultimately, we aim to support the creative artisan community who contribute to the Circular Economy and Sustainable Development Goals.
