Art of Grieving
A series of Compassionate Community Workshops at Mayfield Arts Centre
In response to heartfelt conversations and community consultations across Mayfield and surrounding areas, a shared need has emerged: to explore grief and loss through the healing power of art. Building on insights from the Compassionate Culture Network Project and Mayfield Arts Centre's own experiences supporting an aging and often isolated population, a new initiative will be launched to create safe, compassionate, and creative spaces for connection and healing.
This Autumn, Mayfield Arts Centre will host a 12-week pilot series of Creative Community Workshops for a core group of 12 adults. Led by experienced artist facilitators and an artist/psychotherapist, and supported by local community groups, participants will engage in crafts, printmaking, textile art, ceramics—and potentially poetry and music. These sessions will offer a space to share stories, build resilience, and foster recovery through artistic expression.
The project will culminate in a public exhibition in December, showcasing the participants’ creative journeys and celebrating the strength found in shared experience.
