"Beyond the Spotlight" Inclusive Theatre with NLN & Exit Does Theatre
Exit Does Theatre is working with 14 service users at NLN Manorhamilton who have taken part in regular drama and music workshops with Paddy McEneaney over the past year. This winter, they will present a live play at The Glens Arts Centre, exploring creativity through tailored workshops in acting, dance, movement and singing.
The play, written by Joel Smith, will incorporate local history and the theme of climate change. Directed by Paddy McEneaney, the performance will include original songs and choreography. Participants will receive specialist training from Valerie Whitworth (singing), Kate Wilson (dance), and Roisin Loughrey (filmmaking).
Filmmaker Roisin Loughrey will document the creative process and produce multimedia elements—such as recorded routines and scenes—to support the live performance. These recordings will offer a creative safety net for participants and enhance the on-stage experience. Filmic elements like multi-location scenes and roving reporters will also be developed.
The project will give participants more time and support to explore their talents across disciplines, working with a wide range of professional artists. Exit Does Theatre, in residency at The Glens Arts Centre, receives free use of the venue and technical support—enabling a high-quality production that celebrates inclusivity, collaboration and creativity.
