Biddy Early: A Woman of the People
Biddy Early: A Woman of the Poeple is a film about Ireland’s most famous “witch”.
It tells the story of how she became a beacon of hope for many of Ireland’s poor through the worst disaster in Europe since the Black Plague; the Great Famine. Biddy helped those in need when everyone else turned away and this film displays how relevant her story is today.
This project is brought to you by Balor O’Brien, one of Ireland’s last storytellers. Balor has spent his life studying Irish history and folklore with the ambition to preserve aspects of Irish culture before they vanish for good. It is a film for anyone passionate about history, storytelling and folklore. The film aspires to connect you with Ireland’s past, stir up your passion for creativity and serve to remind us of our duty to support others when they need us most.
The film will be screened in Clare Museum, Ennis, on three occasions: the 12th, 19th and 26th of August from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. The event will consist of a 30 minute screening followed by a 60 minute discussion about the film. Booking not required.
