Students from the local primary school will explore the art of willow crafting over a series of workshops, offering them a meaningful way to engage with the Biddy’s Day tradition. 

As the children work with this natural, flexible material, which has strong ties to Irish craft heritage, they gain not only new skills, but also an understanding of how traditional practices can be reimagined and sustained.

Working directly with a skilled facilitator, children will learn to bend and weave willow into imaginative shapes and glowing lanterns. These creations will be proudly carried in the Biddy’s Parade, forming a moving tapestry of light, colour and creativity. 

The aim is not only to teach practical craft skills, but to ignite a sense of pride and belonging among younger generations by placing their work at the heart of the celebration.
