Biddy's Day: Sugán Stool-Making Workshop
Led by fourth generation master Sugán crafters Timmy and Simon Griffin, participants are invited to learn the skills behind this timeless craft, which is an icon of Irish domestic life, during these Sugán stool weaving, making and decorating workshops.
The Biddy’s Day festival committee (in June) and the public (February Bank Holiday Weekend) will be guided through each step of the process from shaping the wooden frame, twisting and tightening the sugan (the rope seat made traditionally from hay or straw) to decorating your finished stool with personal flair.
Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or a total beginner, the only requirement is a willingness to sit, listen and work with your hands. The atmosphere promises to be lively; full of stories, laughter and the steady rhythm of rope weaving through wood. Places are limited to ensure each person gets individual guidance. All materials are provided, and no previous experience is necessary. Come for the craft. Stay for the conversation. Leave with a stool, a story, and the skill to carry a thread of Irish tradition into the future.
The booking link will be available on the Biddy's Day Facebook page closer to the date.
