Bog Bothy Tour: A celebration of Ireland’s peatlands through the lens of architecture
This summer, the Irish Architecture Foundation (IAF) and 12th Field will present Bog Bothy, a new timber shelter, co-created with communities in Offaly and Meath. This is the conclusion of three years of architecture-focused community climate action, prompting a tour and summer of celebration of Ireland’s peatlands through architecture, design and community storytelling, exploring how we can sustainably engage with these landscapes into the future. The tour kicks off in Clara, Offaly, on the occasion of the Bog Trotters Festival from June 19th - June 22nd, with a Bothy, exhibition, resident artist, and public programme hosting national conversations on our evolving relationship with Ireland’s peatlands. Tour and Programme will consist of Peatlands panel talks, walks, workshops, and performances across climate action, architecture, and future heritage. - Bothy: A purpose-built shelter and gathering space for deep engagement with the bog that builds on the design language of Ireland’s peatlands. - Exhibition: A curated exploration of labour, trace, and climate in the boglands - exploring the bog as both a historical archive and a future landscape. - Artist in Residence: Creative embedded in the landscape to create new work that responds to the peatlands and its people, and the Bog Bothy project through deep engagement.
