In 2025, Birr Community and Nursing Unit (BCNU) will come alive with the sound of music, thanks to a new initiative supported by the Creative Ireland Live Music Performances in Healthcare Settings Scheme.  Designed and delivered by Anam Beo in partnership with healthcare centres activity staff, this exciting programme will bring residents a rich and uplifting experience of live music. At the heart of the project are three outstanding professional musicians: Aoise O’Dwyer, Camilo Gaete Puga, and Ruairí O’Shea. Together, they will lead a series of 15 engaging sessions, including twelve interactive music workshops and three classical performances. 

These sessions have been carefully designed in consultation with Birr CNU staff to ensure they meet the creative needs and comfort of the residents. The programme’s goal is simple but powerful: to use music as a tool for self-expression, connection, and well-being. Through singing, gentle movement, and storytelling, residents will be invited to participate in ways that are accessible, joyful, and meaningful. The music sessions aim to spark memories, inspire conversation, and build a greater sense of community within the unit.

By making live music a part of daily life at Birr CNU, the project hopes to leave a lasting legacy, one where creativity, memory, and community are nurtured through the simple, transformative power of music.
