A series of children's interactive multi-disciplinary workshops hosted by a panel of 4 professional arts practitioners. It's goal is to target children who currently don't have access to the arts. They will engage the schools initially and then the children will experience a show in there
Our proposed community engagement project will be a targeted series of art workshops to be hosted within Limerick DEIS primary schools by professional artists over the course of September 2022. From past experience we know the following: Without arts engagement through the school system a large number of children from social economic deprived areas in our city have no access to the arts or to cultural events. Without long-term engagement our previous parachuting approach to host stand alone workshops has little impact. A two step approach is required for any significant impact: in the first instance to host a series of art workshops in schools over 2 months. Secondly to have a commitment by the school to visit the venue to experience a live performance once the workshops are complete, within a short space of time.
Both steps are essential for transformational change to occur. The goal is to ensure every child in Limerick feels comfortable walking through the theatre doors but in order for this to happen Lime Tree Theatre| Belltable must be pro-active. The plan is to engage with young children in our Bualadh Bos Children's Festival every October.
