Ceiliúradh

Ceiliuradh (meaning “celebration” in Irish) is a vibrant new initiative aimed at revitalising Galway’s St Patrick’s Day parade in 2026. Through a collaborative pageant-making process, we will harness the creative energy of local youth groups, youth theatre ensembles, community circus projects, and Galway’s international communities—reflecting our city’s remarkable cultural diversity, with around 30% of residents born outside Ireland.

Beginning in summer 2025, Ceiliuradh’s workshops will align with existing summer programmes and camps, ensuring broad and inclusive participation. Young people will work side by side with experienced artists and cultural leaders, developing costumes, performances, and visual elements that capture the essence of Galway today. The final spectacle will be a cohesive, uplifting pageant, designed to bring renewed vibrancy, creativity, and unity to the traditional parade.

By fostering collaboration and shared artistic expression, Ceiliuradh will help strengthen community ties and showcase the cultural richness that defines modern Galway. In doing so, we envision a St Patrick’s Day parade where Galway’s local heritage merges seamlessly with the global backgrounds of our residents, culminating in a joyful celebration of our shared hopes and aspirations. Ultimately, Ceiliuradh seeks to transform the parade into a living reflection of our evolving identity and the warmth of our community.
