The Commemorations Programme 2026 is a series of planned cultural and historical initiatives which includes Sligo and the Sense of Place, a literary anthology emerging from creative writing workshops held at Sligo Central Library between 2024 and 2025. Featuring both emerging and established writers, it explores Sligo’s identity and evolving sense of place from 1925 onward, with a launch planned for October 2026. In addition, ahead of the 2027 centenary of Countess Markievicz’s death, the programme will commission five new entrance boards for the main entry points into County Sligo to honour her legacy and enhance public awareness.
