Creative Comforts Festival: Panel Discussion- Pop Culture as Inspiration & Self Care
Poet Bebe Ashley and tattoo/traditional artist Ruth Kavanagh in conversation with author Meg Grehan. How can we use our adoration for our favourite parts and people of pop-culture to comfort and inspire us? How can we use that inspiration to make our own art? Bebe, Ruth and Meg will delve into fandom, obsession and creation and discuss how being a fan can be a wonderful thing.
In 2021 Bebe was awarded a Chair of Ireland Poetry Trust Award. Previously, Bebe has also been shortlisted in the Bridport Prize and for the National Poetry Competition. In 2023, Bebe won the Ivan Juritz Prize for Creative Experiment for Text.
Recently, Bebe represented Northern Ireland in the British Council Literature Seminar in Berlin and was selected, by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Future Screens NI, as one of nine artists to receive a Digital Evolution Award in support of a project Confetti that explores poetic potential of Braille and 3D printing. She was also awarded a Creative Practitioner Bursary by Belfast City Council.
Ruth is head Artist and the owner of Zombie Dollz Tattoo Parlour.
She is passionate about all things tattoo related and is always ready to welcome you into her wonderfully witchy studio.
Ruth has a background in fine art and metalworking, ( both silver and goldsmithing ) She studied at The National College of Art and design and has exhibited in The Ulster Museum in Belfast .
