Dementia Cafés Connemara
A Dementia Café is a welcoming space, designed for people with dementia and their carers, to socialize, receive support and engage in various activities. These cafés provide a safe environment, where attendees can share experiences, access information and participate in activities that promote mental stimulation and emotional well-being.
Healthy County Galway aims to create a café with a well-organized schedule and structure, to support dementia patients and their carers, while also alleviating social isolation for this group. The aim is to create a sustainable and replicable template, which can be implemented in other areas of County Galway in the future.
Creative Ireland's contribution to this project involves providing funding for Creative Workshops and performances and also creating a bank of art materials, fidget blankets and other items, which will help people living with dementia and their carers, to utilise creativity as a means of supporting wellbeing.
