Diversity on our Doorstep

This project seeks to demonstrate the creative diversity of recent arrivals in the Tuam area – with a particular focus on the International Protection community resident in the Corralea Court Hotel. In collaboration with the GCC Integration Team, having engaged with the residents extensively since their arrival in September, 2024, this project aims to provide a platform whereby these diverse cultures and creative spirit can be shared with the people of Tuam.

The project will roll out as a one-day event which will be divided into three categories: Art, Story and Song, and Food Culture.

1. Cultural Art Stations:

Kids and adults can create art pieces (like flags, patterns, or symbols) that represent their heritage – for example, bracelets and henna designs.

2. Story Circle:

Adults and children share folktales or personal stories from their cultures in an interactive storytelling session.

3. Music and Dance Exchange:

Teach simple Nigerian, Jordanian, and Arabic dances, or songs, with a collaborative dance circle.

4. Cultural Potluck:

Everyone brings a small, easy-to-make dish to share and provides some background to the food.

The people resident in the Corralea extend to a broad array of nationalities and cultures including Jordanian, Nigerian, Somali, Pakistani, and Iraqi which will serve to enrich the event.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
