Dooega Scarecrow Trail
Inspired by the Durrow Scarecrow Festival, Féile Dú Éige will transform the village of Dooega on Achill Island into a spooky, creative wonderland this Halloween. Using beachcombed materials, locals will design and display imaginative scarecrows outside their homes, creating an interactive trail for the whole community and visitors to enjoy.
The festival will include a local history walk, ghost story night, Halloween mask-making workshops using beach litter, and a special film screening in a venue last used as a cinema in the 1960s. All events are free and bilingual, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all.
With support from visiting artists, every household will be invited to take part, including Ukrainian families and older residents who see this as a vital source of connection. The trail will also be open to schools and visiting groups, making Féile Dú Éige a celebration of creativity, community, and coastal culture.
