Drama and Addiction

Turas is a community addiction service working with people at all stages of addiction.

In collaboration with artist Kwasie Boyce, this project will use drama as a creative medium to explore issues around addiction in the community.

Through a series of workshops the participants will explore the impact their addiction has had on their life. The participants will create a performance through creative writing, character development, staging and performance.

A performance piece will be held in St Helena's Part in Dundalk at the end of the project.

The project will challenge the stigma around addiction that addiction is the fault of the person and will make them see that it is in normally as a result of a childhood trauma and painful emotions that people turn to addiction.

The audience will discover the challenges, ups and downs and losses that emerge for someone on a journey to recovery.

Details of the final performance piece will be posted to the Creative Ireland Louth Facebook page.
