Dressing Dublin - Made in Blackrock
It is within living memory, but little known beyond those directly involved, that Blackrock, Co. Dublin was a significant hub for the Irish textile and clothing industry from the foundation of the state until the arrival of cheaper international imports from the 1980s onwards. Thousands of people, mostly women, worked in the garment factories centered around Brookfield Avenue.
This project with creative historian Laura Fitzachary, includes the creation of a video/audio trail and image research to creatively explore the evidence of this recently lost industry hiding in plain sight in the streets around Brookfield Avenue.
The Made in Blackrock events programme will also include a public talk and exhibition and three sewing machine workshops for adults and three for teenagers with Green Thread.
