Finglas Intergenerational Gardening Project

Finglas West Family Resource Centre Project Worker offered this service to students and an adult member of their family from the girls' national school in Finglas West. It was an intergenerational service where each child had an adult member from their family attending the group with them. There were five children and five adults whom attended the 8 week programme and a consultation and planning meeting with the children and adults took place. The project aimed to develop a safe and child friendly environment within the surrounding area of the Family Resource Centre and on their school grounds. Each session was planned by the children and involved making biodegradable pots, sewing seeds, bug motels, planting flowers, lettuce, making fairy doors and sprinkling magic dust around the garden and decorating tires and planting in them.  The outcome was the development of a beautiful garden on the school grounds which the children and parents or grandparents planned, designed and created.
