Gather Community Threads - Jess Kavanagh
Following the foraging (Workshop 1) and natural dyeing (Workshop 2) stages, Workshops 3–8 focus on transforming the dyed fabrics and threads into a collaborative embroidered textile artefact. Across these six monthly sessions, participants develop embroidery skills while working together on the shared piece. Each workshop combines individual exploration with collective design, drawing inspiration from the colours, textures, and imagery gathered during the earlier stages of the project. The emphasis is on community making: participants experiment with stitches, collaborate on layout and colour transitions, and contribute their own creativity to the evolving artefact. The process not only strengthens skills in heritage craft techniques but also fosters connection, dialogue, and shared ownership of the final work. These workshops form the heart of the Gather: Community Threads project; a sustained, slow making process that brings people together to stitch stories, skills, and experiences into one collective piece.
