“Hands of Monaghan” Community Engagement Project
From the Palaeolithic to modern times the handprint persists as visual vocabulary. Our handprint is a symbol of uniqueness; no two prints are the same and yet there is a connectedness to humanity.
This project invites people from across Monaghan to contribute a colourful handprint symbolising their unique presence and shared cultural identity. Handprints in a variety of vibrant colours are collected from participants of all ages and background and transformed into a
dynamic projection displayed on walls of cultural venues — a powerful visual statement of unity, diversity, and community spirit. The installations celebrate connection and creativity, turning walls into a living canvas of inclusion and hope.
To optimise community engagement, the handprint collection workshops are facilitated in public spaces, providing an opportunity for schools, community groups, and local organisations to get involved. Colourful paints are used to encourage individuality and creativity with each handprint symbolising a personal contribution to the collective artwork. It is anticipated the collective piece will be ready for projection in Autumn.
