Heartlands Pride Athlone are delighted to be funded by Creative Westmeath, to work with Athlone based community artist, Aoife Doolan to create a 3D Síle na Gig float for Athlone's first Pride Parade, taking place on the 6th of June 2026.

Heartlands Pride Athlone with the support of Creative Westmeath, are inviting the people of Westmeath to create a Síle na Gig float for Athlone's very first Pride Parade. This project will be led by community-based artist Aoife Doolan with the parade taking place on the 6th of June 2026. The aim is to have a colourful display at the parade, highlighting the heritage and culture of Westmeath. Heartlands Pride are an LGBT+ group based in Athlone. The group have experience of censorship and silencing, which is why the history of Síle na Gig resonates so strongly with them. Síle na Gig has historical significance in Westmeath. Heartlands Pride would like Síle to play a large role in the parade.
