Historic Landfill Consultations

Four historic landfill sites (Carcur, Wexford Town; Lucas Park, Enniscorthy; Ballykeerogue, Campile; Gorteen, Inch) in County Wexford are earmarked for development as planned public/recreational spaces. These sites, forgotten peripheries of land once used to store our rubbish, will be reclaimed and reactivated as positive spaces for civic engagement.

Contributing to the plans for development, the Creative Ireland programme and the Environment Office at Wexford County Council will run creative consultation workshops with communities living near these four sites. A fifth workshop will be held with Wexford-based artists whose work focuses on climate action. Focusing on art-based consultation methods these workshops will gather innovative and forward thinking ideas and opinions to shape the future of these sites through collective, community-driven authorship.

This project meets our strategic objective to support creative programming around placemaking, greening initiatives and sustainable actions for biodiversity.

Details for the workshops are as follows:

  • Carcur – Thursday 9th October, 7.00 pm at Wexford Library;
  • Lucas Park – Thursday 16th October, 7.00 pm at Enniscorthy Library; Ballykeerogue – Friday 7th November, 7.00 pm at Campile Community Hall;
  • Gorteen – Saturday 8th November, 4.00 pm at St, Mogues Community Centre.
