Illuminate Your Creativity – Light-up Fabric Workshop
Discover how stitching and circuits can come together in this hands-on creative workshop at Ferrybank Men’s Shed, designed for adults (18+). In a relaxed, beginner-friendly setting, you’ll create your own light-up fabric craftwork using thread, LEDs, and simple electronic components — all sewn into an embroidery hoop. With guidance from Aileen Drohan (Walton Institute, SETU), you’ll learn how to sew a basic LED circuit into fabric with conductive thread, then explore how to sew a solar circuit to recharge the batteries powering your glowing design. No experience with sewing or electronics is needed — just curiosity and a creative spirit. You’ll take home your work – and will be encouraged to keep adding personal touches to it to make it truly your own. Step into this introduction to the exciting world of electronic textiles and solar energy for a sustainable crafting experience. All workshop materials including electronic components are provided.
