Immortalising the Brosna Suite

The Brosna River Suite was composed and performed by musician, Carole Nelson during Heritage Week 2021 in Ferbane, at an event organised by Ferbane Tidy Towns, in a time when gathering was limited, yet creativity endured. Rooted in the rhythm of water and place, the music captures the spirit of a river that has shaped communities for generations. The Brosna connects towns and villages whose histories were forged along its banks, through mills, industry, and the quiet continuity of everyday life.

In 2022, the suite found new expression in the open air at the Brosna River Literary and Music Festival, where it resonated with a wide and appreciative audience. Since then, its significance has continued to grow, reflecting a shared desire to honour both cultural and environmental heritage in Offaly.

Now, in an important new step, the Brosna River Suite is being transcribed, ensuring it can be learned, performed, and carried forward by musicians and communities alike. To celebrate this moment, a special classical music performance will take place on Friday, 19th June, as part of the Bog Trotters Sustainability Festival in Clara.
