In Our Own Words – Women’s Lives, Stories & Voices
2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the North Leitrim Women’s Centre—a milestone that celebrates three decades of community, resilience, and the voices of women across the region. To honour this occasion, the Centre is launching In Our Own Words, a creative writing and storytelling project that invites women to reflect on their lives, experiences, and the evolving role of women in North Leitrim.
Led by local playwright and writer Treasa Nealon, the project will offer a series of eight creative workshops exploring both non-fiction and fiction. Participants will read and write personal essays, poetry, and short stories, capturing their own journeys and the collective story of the Women’s Centre. A collage-making session will also allow participants to visually reflect on their work, with selected pieces featured in a professionally published book.
The project will culminate in a public event at The Glens Arts Centre, where participants and actors will share readings from the collection. This celebration will showcase the power of women’s voices and the importance of storytelling in building connection, confidence, and community.
