Mother Earth / The Great Nourisher and Our Natural Biodiversity

Michelle McMahon will deliver a presentation on her ecofeminism work for International Women’s Day as part of the Kilkenny Creative Ireland Programme.

Her talk, with supporting visuals, explores woman as the original image of God and introduces prehistoric cultures in Ireland, Europe and beyond that honoured the Great Mother as the source of all life. Michelle will reflect on our ancestors’ deep connection to the land and their belief that all elements of nature—from rocks to rivers—carried spirit.

This gathering offers women in Kilkenny a chance to come together, recognise our collective strength, and draw inspiration to act for the wellbeing of the earth.

Michelle will also showcase community-based environmental art projects such as the Brat Bríde cloaks, Goddess Prayer Flags, and Biodiversity on the Block banners and carved blocks. With a background in sustainable development, she advocates for an egalitarian, sustainable society that values nature, women, and all people.

She invites you to listen, reflect and discuss how women can empower local communities to “turn back the dial on biodiversity loss” and help protect our natural world.

This event is delivered in collaboration with Kilkenny County Council’s Biodiversity Office. Spaces are limited—please book at biodiversity@kilkennycoco.ie.
