This project will deliver a special series of newly commissioned orchestral and vocal works for youth choir and youth orchestra, created to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of Athenry Music School. 

The works will be composed by Peter Broderick, an internationally renowned composer with a distinguished career across contemporary classical, film and collaborative music-making, and Oisín Dilger, an award-winning emerging composer and graduate of Athenry Music School. This pairing reflects a balance of international artistic ambition and the nurturing of local talent, demonstrating a clear artistic progression pathway for young people in County Galway.

Central to the artistic vision is an inclusive, participatory compositional process. The project will begin with creative workshops in which youth choir and youth orchestra members generate musical fragments, textures and ideas. A second phase of workshops will invite students to shape the overall structure, dynamic language and sound world of the pieces, fostering artistic agency, collaboration and critical listening skills.

Artistically, the project is ambitious in scale, innovative in process, and celebratory in intent. Our core aims are to promoting access to high-quality arts experiences for young people, encouraging creative participation, developing local artistic capacity, and strengthening cultural life at community level. The resulting performances will stand as a meaningful artistic legacy.
