Place Standard Tool Reimagined with the Traveller Community

This project sees Dublin City Council collaborate with Pavee Point in Sláintecare Healthy Communities programme areas. It aims to creatively engage Traveller communities using a culturally adapted version of the Place Standard Tool, co-designed with Planning Aid Scotland.

The Place Standard Tool (PST) is a framework used to assess how well a place supports the health and wellbeing of the people living there. It covers key themes like housing, transport, safety, green spaces, and social interaction, encouraging community members to rate and discuss each area. The tool promotes inclusive, meaningful dialogue and helps guide planning and policy decisions based on local lived experience.

This project aims to address exclusion in health and planning by enabling Traveller communities to assess their own environments and express priorities through culturally appropriate, accessible methods. Led by Dublin City Council Sláintecare Healthy Communities Programmes in partnership with Pavee Point, local Traveller organisations, Planning Aid Scotland, and Healthy Ireland the planned project uses storytelling, visual arts, podcasting, and artist-led workshops to gather insights and produce a ‘storybook’ and short video that reflect Traveller perspectives. Creative outputs are intended to inform housing, planning, and public health policies, embedding Traveller voices into institutional decision-making.
