PRISMA Gemstones is a vibrant new initiative that invites LGBTQ+ young people and their allies to explore the world of filmmaking through a dynamic, hands-on workshop series. Developed in partnership with PRISMA – Cork’s Queer Film Festival, this five-day crash course introduces participants aged 14–18 to LGBTQ* film history, core filmmaking techniques, and the creative process of making their own short films.

Led by Cork-based creatives working in the film industry, the programme offers a supportive, inclusive space for young people to express their identities, build confidence, and tell their own stories on screen. The short films created during the workshops will be proudly showcased at PRISMA Festival, giving participants a platform to share their voices with the wider community.

Gemstones responds to a vital need: to create safe, empowering spaces for young people to explore identity and creativity during a formative time in their lives. In an industry still shaped by heteronormative narratives, this project champions authentic queer storytelling and encourages the next generation to shape the future of film in Cork and beyond.
