Roscommon Mosaic Revival: Legacy, Skills Transfer and Community Engagement

Roscommon Mosaic Revival aims to reintroduce mosaic‑making to Roscommon by documenting and preserving the county’s unique craft heritage. Led by Maedhbh Brosnan of Smidiríni Mosaics, the project brings together original mosaic artists Sergio Benedetti, Tom Kilroe and Patsy Flanagan, supported by local heritage advocate Liam Stephens, to capture traditional techniques, tools and materials used in Roscommon’s historic mosaic work.

A key outcome is the creation of a high‑quality legacy resource—either filmed or written—building on earlier heritage documentation from 2024. This archive will record specialist processes and serve as an instructional reference for future artists, educators and community projects.

The project will also deliver a small number of community workshops, introducing participants to both traditional and contemporary mosaic techniques. These sessions aim to deepen public appreciation of the craft and spark renewed interest in mosaic‑making in Roscommon.

Overall, the project safeguards valuable cultural knowledge while reigniting community connection to a distinctive artistic tradition

Details of the community engagement opportunities will be listed on Roscommon Co Co social media as they are available.
