to 19th Jul 2019

Age Range
9-12

Venue
Monaghan County Museum

Address
The Hill

Working with AmmA in Armagh the County Museum will host a summer camp where the young people will use plans of Rossmore Castle and rebuild it in Minecraft. They will then be able to explore the completed castle through VR headsets.

The project is using a digital medium to translate an historical building into a virtual reality setting. The main impact will be that a whole new generation of Monaghan people will have the opportunity to explore Rossmore Castle through virtual reality and gain a greater appreciation of an important part of the region’s recent history that has been largely forgotten.

Having this very accessible resource available, will empower the whole community to find out more about their local history and heritage. The museum will be collaborating with  AMMA Armagh on a cross border basis for this and hopefully future projects. Locally, the museum will be working with the Library service in utilising the suite of digital hardware and Techspace programme.

It is hoped to host the finished building, designed in Minecraft online, which will also enable a larger, international audience to explore the history and heritage of the region.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
