SCRAP! A Sustainable Fashion and Upcycling Project
Led by Monaghan County Council’s Climate Action Team, Environmental Awareness Officer and Library Service in collaboration with the Rediscovery Centre, the SCRAP project utilises creativity to raise awareness of ‘slow fashion’ among secondary school students. Now in its second year, the project promotes eco – fashion, sustainable fashion, recycling, upcycling, repurposing as tangible alternatives to ‘fast fashion’ which causes extensive damage to the planet and exploits workers.
The project engages local creatives to develop and deliver a series of workshops that encourage secondary school students and youth groups to slash, sew, shred, embroider, embellish, print and dye second hand clothing to create unique and wearable fashion pieces. Materials used for the workshops are eco – friendly.
Workshops will throughout the 2025 Autumn/Winter period in the run up to the Relove Competition coordinated by the Rediscovery Centre. Please note that workshops are restricted to participating schools and youth groups.
Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
