'Sense of Place'

As part of the Strandhill Film and Folk Festival (SFFF) 2025 we wish to run a daytime event on Sunday August 31st 2025 in the Strandhill National Surf Centre called ‘Sense of Place’ (working title) that is free to the public. This event will feature talks and workshops from local artists, historians and authors whose work connects story to place, including folklore, heritage and biodiversity related to our locality here in Strandhill. A selection of local photographers and filmmakers work will be exhibited work connected to Strandhill and the broader Sligo. This will be an open and inclusive event for all who wish to attend, with Q&As after each talk to encourage audience engagement.  The ‘Sense of Place’ event will act to celebrate and showcase local artists and contribute to fostering local arts, culture, heritage and literary traditions.

The second programme will feature a diverse range of Irish and international short films, offering audiences access to diverse perspectives, including films by female, LGBTQ+, and Irish-language directors. This year’s festival attracted many filmmakers to the area, creating opportunities for networking and collaboration with local artists and filmmakers.

The folk music element is central to the festival, celebrating Strandhill’s vibrant music scene. Folk music will resonate throughout the village, showcasing local talent and unique arrangements.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
