Sligo Stories A Living Memory Quilt with Voices of Our Community
MCR Community Centre is a community based organisation located in Sligo. The Active Age Group meets weekly and is a key part of the centre’s mission to reduce isolation and promote creativity and wellbeing among older residents.
‘Sligo Stories A Living Memory Quilt with Voices of Our Community’ project will bring together older residents, local artists, and the wider community to create a collaborative artwork that celebrates the people and places of Sligo. Through a series of creative workshops, participants will design and sew fabric panels inspired by their own memories, favourite places, and family stories. Each piece will tell a story a patch of history, laughter, and love. Working alongside a local textile artist and a sound/media artist, we will also record participants sharing the personal stories behind their quilt squares. These recordings will be played as part of the final exhibition, allowing visitors to hear the voices and emotions woven into each piece. The result will be a powerful, multi-sensory experience a quilt that both shows and tells the living story of our community. The project will culminate in a public exhibition and celebration event, bringing together all who contributed.
