Spring Into Storytime
School children will visit their local library for Storytime and an author talk based on the theme of biodiversity. This will be followed by a supervised seed planting workshop where children will set various flower, herb, and vegetable seeds. Identified libraries have either courtyards or safe outdoor space for planting either directly in a garden area or in planters.
A return visit to the library will be scheduled so that children can see the progress of their planting and carry out any necessary pruning or thinning of the plants, a facilitated art workshop can be offered as a follow up activity or alternatively for older children a talk by a beekeeper, the biodiversity officer, or an environmentalist.
Collections of books on the theme of biodiversity, gardening and horticulture will be available for children to borrow as part of their visits.
Gardening for biodiversity helps create a space that not only provides for biodiversity but also encourages wildlife while proving all the benefits and enjoyment we want from a green space.
Participating libraries: An Cheathrú Rua/An Spidéal; Portumna; Dunmore and/or Ballygar. For more information please contact the libraries directly or check https://www.facebook.com/galwaylibraries/
