Stitching Stories – A Patchwork of Memory and Connection

Stitching Stories – A Patchwork of Memory and Connection

This heartwarming community project brings together master seamstress Joyce Tiernan and members of the Mohill Carers Group to create a collaborative patchwork quilt that weaves together stories, memories, and shared experiences. Designed for older adults, the project offers a creative and social space where participants can reflect on their lives, celebrate new phases, and connect through the art of sewing.

Over a series of gentle, hands-on workshops, Joyce will guide participants in designing and stitching individual fabric squares that represent personal memories, milestones, or hopes for the future. These pieces will be sewn together into a collective patchwork—symbolising the richness of each life and the strength of community bonds.

As participants share stories while they sew, the project becomes a space for reminiscence, laughter, and meaningful conversation. It supports wellbeing, reduces isolation, and honours the wisdom and creativity of older generations.
