Bringing Cinema Back to the Community at the Lido

Cork Community Art Link is reviving the spirit of the historic Lido Cinema in Blackpool with a new monthly film night throughout 2025. Aimed at elderly and marginalised members of the community, this initiative will transform the former cinema into a welcoming space for connection, cultural exchange, and shared storytelling.

A diverse film programme will be co-curated with local residents, including older people and migrant communities, reflecting their interests, memories, and cultural backgrounds. From timeless classics and short films to documentaries and culturally significant works, each screening will be chosen to spark conversation and connection.

After each film, informal discussions will invite attendees to share their thoughts, stories, and personal reflections, turning each screening into a space for dialogue and mutual understanding. Participant feedback will help shape the programme as it evolves, ensuring it remains relevant, inclusive, and impactful.

By reactivating the Lido as a vibrant community hub, this project honours Blackpool’s rich cultural heritage while creating new opportunities for social interaction, community bonding, and cultural exploration.
