Tastes of Home: A Multicultural Cookbook and Community Table

A Cookbook of Culture, Community & Connection

Tastes of Home is a community-led project celebrating Cork’s cultural diversity through food, storytelling, and sustainable gardening. Spearheaded by Saoirse Ethnic Hands on Deck (Saoirse EHD) - a social enterprise run by migrant women - the initiative centres around the creation of a multicultural cookbook and a series of engaging food events. Migrant women across Cork will take part in storytelling and recipe-sharing workshops, contributing personal dishes and the rich cultural narratives behind them. The sessions will be hosted in community spaces and facilitated by members of the migrant community to ensure authenticity and inclusivity.

The project also explores how ingredients from around the world can be grown locally, in partnership with the International Garden, a migrant-led community garden in Cork. Recipes will be tested and refined in collaboration with MTU’s professional kitchens, and the final cookbook will feature step-by-step instructions, cultural insights, and practical growing tips. The book will launch at the Cork on a Fork Festival with live cooking demonstrations, tastings, and storytelling sessions, while participants will prepare dishes from the cookbook at a series of multicultural food events across Cork, and share their stories with the wider community. By blending culinary heritage with sustainable practices and community engagement, Tastes of Home aims to celebrate the richness of Cork’s migrant voices.
