Teach Streachlánach Chill Damhnait- malartú cultúrtha cruthaitheach idirghlúine / Kildownet Rambling House.
Rooted in the rich cultural heritage of Achill, Teach Streachlánach Chill Damhnait (Kildownet Rambling House) is an intergenerational creative initiative that brings the community together through storytelling, music, dance, and traditional crafts. Inspired by the legacy of the Strawboys—iconic figures in local folklore—the project revives a cherished tradition while fostering new connections across generations.
Through a series of inclusive workshops, participants of all ages will learn to craft traditional strawboy hats, explore sean-nós singing, local music, dance, and storytelling. These sessions will be led by experienced instructors and community members, culminating in a joyful Community Wedding celebration featuring the Glór na dTonn Céilí Band and a performance by a newly trained Strawboys team—the first in Kildownet in over 35 years.
The project is deeply rooted in community consultation and collaboration, shaped by conversations with elders, youth, newcomers, and creatives. It reflects a shared vision to preserve and celebrate local identity, language, and heritage, while creating space for creativity, inclusion, and cultural exchange.
To ensure this unique cultural revival is preserved for future generations, the project will be documented in two short films (in English and Irish), capturing the spirit, stories, and artistry of the community. Teach Streachlánach Chill Damhnait is more than a celebration—it is a living archive of tradition, creativity, and belonging.
