The Biddies of Baltinglass
The Biddies of Baltinglass is a new women's group in Baltinglass which developed through the Creative Places Baltinglass Programme. The group was created through an open call for participation in a social, spoken documentary type project initiated by Carmel Stephen's, Actor and Theatre Maker. A broad range of women responded to the call from an age range between thirty five and eighty. The women had never participated in a project like this and fifty per cent of the group had never been a member of any group in the town as adults. The group is now embarking on a new collaborative creative project with Carmel Stephens and also Leisa Gray who is a Textile Artist and Museum Curator. The project will have regular contact hours and follow a socially engaged arts practice residency model. Primarily the project will be a supportive space where women, across the generations, can share their stories and experiences and feel seen and validated by others. The methodology will include a combination of story telling and creative making. The group itself will make decisions about what direction the project takes and work towards sharing the work on the project with the community at the end of the process.
