The Crafting Generation: Building Skills Stitch by Stitch: Knitting, Sewing & Crochet
This project introduces weekly creative textile classes for children and young people aged 8+ at the South Roscommon Family Resource Centre. Led by skilled local facilitators, participants will learn sewing (by hand and machine), knitting, crochet, and other textile-based crafts. The programme encourages creativity, confidence, and practical skills while promoting sustainability through the use of reclaimed materials, charity shop finds, and repurposed items from home.
Running across 18 weeks from April to October, the classes will support participants in developing individual and collaborative projects, culminating in a public exhibition at the Family Resource Centre. A four‑day summer camp will further deepen engagement, giving young people the chance to explore multiple craft techniques and complete a shared creative piece.
By combining hands‑on making with climate awareness, the project empowers young people to actively participate in sustainable creativity while connecting with local artists and their community.
