Preserving Roscommon’s Field Names through Community & Creativity
is a heritage and arts project rooted in the local knowledge, oral traditions, and creative spirit of County Roscommon. 

Its aim is to preserve, and creatively reimagine traditional field names—those place-based words rich with history, ecology, and story—through a programme of community engagement and artistic interpretation. 

The Roscommon Heritage Office is currently undertaking a major Field Names Collection Project throughout 2025, with the initiative set to culminate in October. This rich body of local knowledge—gathered from communities across the county—will be made publicly available through  https://meitheal.logainm.ie/en/, which will serve as the central factual resource for this Creative Communities project. 

A creative will engage with this unique archive of place-based heritage as inspiration for new creative work that reflects, reimagines, or responds to the cultural landscape of County Roscommon.
