The Possibilities’ will be a collaborative art project between artist Claire Griffin, Ballina Fringe Festival, Craoibhín Ballina social inclusion club and St Nicholas’ Special School in Ballina. In line with the inclusive Creative Ireland vision, Ballina Fringe Festival believes that every person in our town should have the opportunity to realise their full creative potential. This requires resource and planning to ensure that access is considered from the outset, to ensure that no further barriers to participation are created or further perpetuated.
In July 2022, during the July Provision period when the children will be spending additional time in school, Claire will facilitate eight sessions with both groups, to develop to create a piece or pieces of art. Claire will work with the groups to determine their preferred art form and support them in creating the work. The finished piece will then be launched and presented as part of the Ballina Fringe Festival programme in October 2022.
Alongside, Ballina Fringe Festival will work with a local videographer who will mentor members of Craoibhín and assist them with documenting the process via a short video. A podcast will also be produced during the creation of the work, speaking to both the artist and participants about their experience, to be shared on the existing Ballina Fringe Festival ‘Pure Ballina’ podcast series.
