The shared canvas: the path to connection
Set sail on a creative voyage where families come together to craft a shared story through art, nature, and imagination. This collaborative project invites parents and children to co-create a stunning five-foot mobile wall hanging—an evolving artwork inspired by the sails of a ship and the timeless romance of a message in a bottle.
Guided by a professional artist and the natural beauty of the town’s sensory garden, participants will explore expressive storytelling through touch, texture, and movement. Using tea-stained scrolls, natural materials, and symbolic elements, each family will contribute to a central tapestry of hope, connection, and love.
The project unfolds in two parts: Sail One is designed for mothers and babies, offering a gentle, sensory-rich experience, while Sail Two welcomes toddlers and their families to explore playful techniques and take-home inspiration. As the artwork grows, new sails may be added—each one a reflection of community, creativity, and togetherness. With its mobile design, the piece will travel to public spaces, sharing its story and inviting others to join the journey.
This project offers an immersive sensory artmaking experience that encourages mindful family bonding and nature-inspired creativity. It is inclusive and intergenerational, transforming creativity into a shared experience where every voice matters and every mark tells a story.
