The Sligo Water Guardians

The Sligo Water Guardians is a six-month project based in the Grange, Sligo area, around Grange River with Community Water Officer Luke Kenny, artist Kathryn Maguire, and Transition Year students of Grange Post Primary.
We will develop a series of participatory workshops  exploring the history and age of the Grange River, its geomorphology, geology, and the aquatic life and habitats it supports.
The purpose of the workshops is to glean information about keeping our rivers wiggly; the more a river meanders, the better the health of the river.  The Water Guardians project explores the impact of the changes in the landscape on water and water quality. The Water Guardians project will explore the importance of water and its health, and how we need to protect water to become healthy communities.
The outcomes for the group are designing wooden panels for the school and raising public awareness about Climate change in our rivers, and relaying the message of care for our local rivers.

The Public, including local farmers and anyone who uses the river for sport or recreation, will be invited into the school for an exhibition to display the art panels created through the project.
