Theatre of Tales is an interactive storytelling experience that celebrates the cultural diversity of Waterford through shadow puppetry and lived experience. In the lead-up to the festival, families and individuals from local and migrant communities take part in creative workshops where they craft personal stories of migration, identity, and belonging. These stories are then transformed into miniature shadow puppet theatres and filmed performances.

At the A Slice of Culture Festival, audiences are invited to explore these puppet theatres and access the recorded stories via QR codes, allowing for an engaging, self-paced experience that fosters empathy and intercultural connection. Following the festival, the project will become a mobile exhibition touring libraries and community venues across Waterford.

To further preserve and share these voices, the stories will be compiled into a publication featuring imagery from the puppet performances and embedded links to the video stories. Theatre of Tales not only highlights Waterford’s evolving cultural identity but empowers communities to share their heritage in creative, accessible ways.
