There's Something About the Hares: A WhatsApp Ghost Story

Artist Emily Gilmore Murphy will produce a new digital art performance, in collaboration with the Mermaid Arts Festival Yarn Storytelling Festival 2025: 'There's something about the Hares: A WhatsApp Ghost Story'.  This will be produced as an ambitious immersive piece that embraces elements of Irish folklore, traditional storytelling and digital arts.  It will be an performance that will engage with local Wicklow audiences, the storytelling community and those interested in non-traditional theatre and will introduce audiences to a new way of live storytelling, (story told over WhatsApp, in an intimate one-to-one experience).  The project will encourage younger audiences to engage with the tradition of Irish storytelling, in a medium that they are familiar and comfortable with (WhatsApp). Also, introducing younger audiences to Irish folklore themed around hares. The live and interactive performance can be enjoyed from someone's home, furthering the artist's ability to engage with new audiences.

'There's something about the Hares: A WhatsApp Ghost Story' has been developed by Wicklow-based writer/theatre maker Emily Gillmor Murphy, with the support of Yarn Storytelling Festival.  This development began with Emily engaging with Irish storytellers, learning about Irish folklore, the tradition of storytelling and the community engagement of storytellers. Emily then engaged with Dramaturg Jon Nash, Director/Designer Ciaran Gallagher and Performer Clara Evie.
